Baseball Betting Lines

06/04/2008 - Bronx, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Johnny Damon went 3-for-4, putting together his eighth three-hit game of the season, and also knocked in a run as the New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays, 5-1, in the second installment of a three-game set.

Derek Jeter had an RBI single in the third inning to move past Mickey Mantle into third place on the Yankees' all-time list with his 2,416th hit. Hideki Matsui had a pair of singles and an RBI, while Jose Molina had two hits and scored twice for New York, which halted its three-game skid. Wilson Betemit clubbed a solo home run in the win.

Mike Mussina (9-4) got the win as he went six innings, giving up just one run on five hits while fanning six batters and walking one.

Alex Rios, who extended his hit streak against the Yankees to 25 games, and Lyle Overbay each had two hits for the Blue Jays, who have dropped three of their last four overall. Scott Rolen had an RBI double in defeat.

Jesse Litsch (7-2) absorbed the loss as he was touched for four runs on 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings.

The Yankees jumped on top, 1-0, in the third inning. Molina led the frame off with a single before Melky Cabrera flied out and Damon put runners on the corners with another single. Jeter then hit an RBI single to right field.

New York tacked on more runs in the fourth, as Betemit connected on a two-out homer. Robinson Cano followed with a double, his first extra-base hit since May 24, and Molina drew a walk. A Cabrera single brought Cano home, and the Yanks were ahead 3-0.

Rios drew a two-out walk in the sixth and scored as Rolen followed with a double to left-center field.

Molina belted a double to the gap in left and moved to third when Cabrera grounded out in the bottom half. After Shawn Camp came on in relief, Molina crossed home plate as Damon singled to right, and the Yankees were up 4-1.

New York added one to its total in the seventh. Bobby Abreu worked a lead-off walk and moved to second when Alex Rodriguez grounded out. Scott Downs then took over on the hill for Toronto and gave up an RBI single to Matsui.

Mariano Rivera took the hill for the Yankees in the ninth and got Rolen and Matt Stairs looking at the third strike. Overbay grounded out to end the game.

Game Notes

Blue Jays catcher Rod Barajas left the game in the sixth inning due to a lower back strain...New York won two of three encounters with the Jays in the Bronx from April 1-3 and is 20-13 against Toronto at home since the start of the 2005 campaign...Litsch entered Wednesday's tilt having won five consecutive decisions, and the young right-hander had not yielded a single run over either of his two most recent mound trips...Yankees catcher Jorge Posada, who has been sidelined since late April due to a shoulder injury, was activated from the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday. Posada was put on the DL for the first time in his career on April 28 due to right rotator cuff tendinitis. The 36- year-old is batting .302 with one home run and 11 RBI through 18 games this season. Thursday afternoon is expected to mark the return of Posada to the lineup when the Yankees conclude their three-game series.
